Self-installation of the devolo Giga Bridge
Self-Installation with Coaxial Cable
The devolo Giga Bridge uses G.hn technology (point-to-point) to transmit the internet signal over the coaxial cable (TV/SAT). Connecting the devolo Giga Bridge is straightforward and can be done by beginners without any issues. This installation video demonstrates the individual steps to get the Giga Bridge up and running.
Step by Step:
- Preparation: The devolo Giga Bridge can only be operated on free coaxial cables . Please ensure that there are no other signals (e.g., TV or radio) on this line.
- Step 1: Plug both adapters of the devolo Giga Bridge into separate power outlets and connect them using the included network cable via the phone sockets. During pairing, the LEDs on both devices will blink white. After about three minutes, the pairing is complete, and the LEDs will glow solid white. After pairing, you can remove one of the adapters and the network cable.
- Step 2: Connect the fiber optic termination point (ONT) and the Giga Bridge by plugging a network cable into the Ethernet port (ETH) of the Giga Bridge and into the Ethernet port of the ONT.
- Step 3: Unscrew the existing coaxial cable from the connection and connect it to the devolo Giga Bridge. If the cable is too short, it can be extended using an F-connector and the additional coaxial cable provided. This completes the installation of the first part of the devolo Giga Bridge.
- Step 4: Plug the second adapter into a power outlet near the router. Remove the cable that connects the router to the telephone socket (DSL port). First, screw the included coaxial cable onto the coax port of the devolo Giga Bridge and then onto the coaxial connection of your multimedia socket. Connect the Ethernet port (ETH) of the Giga Bridge to the WAN port (Wide Area Network/ usually blue) of the router using the included network cable. Done!
The most important questions and answers about self-installation with coaxial cable.
2x power socket (1x near ONT and APL /1x near TAE/multimedia socket, e.g. in hallway/living room)
The devolo Giga Bridge transmits the Internet signal via coaxial (TV/SAT) or telephone lines. Depending on the availability of the lines, you can choose between two scenarios. In scenario A, the G.hn signal is transmitted via at least two telephone wires, and in scenario B via standard coaxial cabling.
Both scenarios require a power socket at the installation site, one near the ONT and one near the router. However, as both devices need to be powered anyway, the sockets are usually already available. Since both Giga Bridge adapters have an integrated power socket, these connection sockets can still be used: the power supplies for the ONT and router are simply plugged into the Giga Bridge adapters. Ideally, the telephone or coaxial cables to be connected should not be more than 1.5 metres away from the power sockets.
Scenario A requires an existing telephone line with at least two wires. Before installation, make sure that no other devices are using this line.
Scenario B requires a coaxial cable (TV/SAT) between the two installation locations of the two devolo Giga Bridge adapters. Here, too, make sure that the cable is not being used by other devices.
As a rule, you will need approximately 45 minutes for the installation.
Scenario A:
Slotted screwdriver for opening the TAE socket
Scenario B:
If necessary, open-end spanner (size 11) for loosening the coaxial connectors

- Step 3: Disconnect the telephone cable from the telephone termination point and connect it to the included Cat surface-mounted box (solder-free, screw-free, and stripping-free connection technology). This creates a fully functional network interface. Please pay attention to the correct pin assignment (see installation instructions).
- Step 4: Plug an included network cable into the phone socket of the devolo Giga Bridge and into the Cat surface-mounted box. This completes the installation of the first part of the devolo Giga Bridge.
