devolo MultiNode LAN 4TE

Product details

Wallbox Networking for Billing and Load Management

The devolo MultiNode LAN is a customised solution for networking charging stations that minimises the planning and implementation effort for the required communication infrastructure.

The devolo MultiNode LAN utilises the busbar or the power cable for data communication. The network connection of the central MultiNode LAN device is established via Ethernet to a gateway or directly to the energy management system. The distributed MultiNode LAN devices at the charging stations also have an Ethernet interface.

Charging infrastructure & smart load management

Depending on the charging infrastructure project, the requirements for the communication network vary. Large installations have a dedicated energy management system. All charging stations are connected via the power rail to the central MultiNode LAN device and the energy management system or a gateway.

In smaller installations, a master/slave configuration of the charging stations is often used. The devolo MultiNode LAN is suitable for both scenarios.

Projects often start with just a few charging stations, according to current demand. This reduces the initial investment. However, future expansion should still be taken into account and prepared for as best as possible. By choosing powerline-based data communication, scaling can be implemented easily and quickly. By installing additional charging stations with integrated devolo MultiNode LAN, or adding more distribution boxes with a MultiNode LAN, the communication network grows accordingly. There is no need to lay new cables or install and connect Ethernet switches in the underground garage or parking area. Currently, more than 100 network nodes can be implemented within a single powerline network.

With the devolo MultiNode Manager, the PLC network can be installed, monitored, and updated. Once all MultiNode LAN devices are installed, the network setup on-site takes just a few minutes. The MultiNode LAN devices automatically connect in an optimized topology. Network configuration is limited to setting parameters for network access. After that, the network is secured and can, if necessary, be expanded with additional network segments. The MultiNode Manager enables remote monitoring of the network topology and the status of network connections. A standardized interface allows integration into an energy management system or cross-installation management systems.

Application

Scenario 1: Load Management via Master Wallbox

The Master Wallbox is directly connected to the internet via an Ethernet switch and takes control of energy management for the Slave Wallboxes through MultiNode and Powerline.

Typical use case: Smaller installations (multi-family homes, hotels, etc.).

Scenario 2: Centralized energy management

Wallboxes are connected to a head station via MultiNode LAN and powerline, and communicate with an energy management gateway (not included in the scope of delivery) using OCPP.

Typical use case: Larger installations (e.g., vehicle fleets).

Advantages at a glance

  • With the installation of the busbars and charging stations, the foundation for the data infrastructure is automatically established.
  • Especially in parking lots with longer distances, PLC provides a real advantage over wireless solutions or laying data cables.
  • With G.hn powerline technology, even the most remote charging station can be reached.

  • Subsequent network expansions are possible without any construction work.
  • Currently, over 100 network nodes are supported in a PLC network.

  • Powerline communication is particularly well-suited to the structural conditions in the context of charging infrastructure.
  • For wireless solutions, solid walls and fire doors pose an almost insurmountable obstacle.
  • Powerline communication easily penetrates solid walls and can be used across multiple floors.

  • The powerline network is self-organizing and automatically finds the optimal topology adapted to the physical conditions at all times.
  • Moreover, unlike in Wi-Fi networks, there are no disruptions to the signal path caused by vehicles or people.

  • The communication devices are built into the charging stations or distribution boxes, and are therefore protected against unauthorized access.
  • Additional protection is provided by the standard AES-128 encryption. Attacks such as deauthentication (deauth) are also not possible in PLC networks.

Simplify network management with the web interface

The MultiNode LAN 4TE includes a powerful built-in web server that puts complete control of your network at your fingertips. Access all management features through any web browser—no additional software installation required.

  • Quick network setup: Get your MultiNode network up and running in minutes with guided configuration wizards that walk you through each step
  • Centralized firmware updates: Deploy firmware updates across your entire network from a single interface, ensuring all devices stay current without manually updating each node
  • Network topology view: Visualize your complete network structure at a glance with an interactive topology map showing all connected nodes and their properties
  • Advanced configuration: Upload custom certificates, enable mDNS forwarding, and manually configure network topology for specialized deployment scenarios
