devolo announces shutdown of Home Control servers. Smart home components can still be used.

devolo will shut down the servers for its Home Control smart home system on 31 December 2025. Home Control will continue to be available in offline mode with limited functionality. Users can also replace the Home Control central unit with a Z-Wave gateway from another manufacturer in order to continue using Home Control sensors and actuators. ROCKETHOME also offers a replacement service. Home network products such as devolo Magic, WiFi repeaters and routers, as well as solutions for industrial customers from the German manufacturer, are not affected by the changes.

Home Control remains usable

On December 31, 2025, the Home Control servers will be shut down. From that point on, remote access to the smart home system via the Home Control app and the mydevolo web portal will no longer be possible. The Home Control app will also be removed from the app stores on December 31, 2025.

Home Control can still be operated in offline mode with limited functionality. All programmed time control processes and if/then scenarios will be executed. In offline mode, remote control is no longer possible. This means that new configurations (devices, rules, scenes, time controls) can no longer be set up, and old configurations can no longer be changed.

Users can alternatively replace the Home Control Center with a Z-Wave gateway from another manufacturer. devolo recommends purchasing a gateway certified by the Z-Wave Alliance, which will allow the Home Control sensors and actuators to continue being used remotely. Customers can find an overview of the extensive product portfolio on the Z-Wave Alliance website.

Additionally, the Cologne-based smart home specialist ROCKETHOME offers a switch service for Home Control customers. This allows them to easily transition to a new system using their existing Home Control central unit—without having to reconfigure the individual devices. Customers can find the product offerings and a list of supported Home Control components and functions on this website.

Home Control: the DIY Smart Home.

In March 2015, devolo introduced Home Control, the first DIY smart home solution designed for enhanced security, comfort, and easy energy savings. All components of the Z-Wave-based smart home system could be installed effortlessly via an app and online portal, without the need for specialized knowledge.

"Since its launch, Home Control has been one of the most user-friendly smart home systems on the market. In particular, the extensive feedback from the community has contributed to the continuous improvement of Home Control over the years and has led to numerous international test victories. We would like to thank all Home Control users for this. The decision to shut down the Home Control servers was not made lightly, and we understand the disappointment of our Home Control customers. As part of our strategic realignment, we have decided that devolo will focus on the more growth-oriented business areas of 'Home Networking' and 'Industrial' in the future," summarizes Heiko Harbers (General Manager, devolo solutions GmbH).
